In my understanding, even now conversions are taking place. I recently heard an interview given by a few girls who got converted to Islam from Hinduism. It seemed like there are a few people appointed for this. They did the conversion through a step by step process:

  1. Asking questions from Hindu culture and making fun of some of the things in Hindu culture. The girls also said what questions they were asked about Hinduism. These could have been easily answered if one has at least a slight idea about Hinduism
  2. Since the girls could not find the answers, they came to the conclusion or they were made to think that Hinduism was completely illogical. They slowly started hating Hindu culture
  3. At this point, it was very easy for the appointed people of Islam (as I mentioned above)to introduce Khuran and the Islam culture
  4. Gradually they started loving Islam and started getting converted. I heard that some girls were even send to Syria, some committed suicide after the conversion, some were somehow saved from this and with the initiative of many people they came back to Hinduism.

There are a lot of good muslims out there who respect Indian culture but unfortunately, some people still focus on building an Islam empire within India even now!

There are several Indian kings who have valiantly fought against invaders like Tipu Sultan and Hyder Ali. Tipu sultan converted or killed Hindus mostly in the northern part of Kerala. Tipu sultan tried to conquer the entire part of the present day Kerala, but he could not touch the Travancore kingdom. Pazhassiraja also played an important role in preventing further attacks to Malabar from Tipu sultan. He was then defeated by the Marathas.

If India was a simple target and if Indian kings were lazy, India would have become a Muslim majority country like Iran, Turkey etc.!
